What was your first Bikram class like?
At first I was nervous…I hadn’t done any kind of yoga before, and exercising was not fun for me. I remember going into a big room with lots of people lying down on the floor relaxing in savasana. Then the class began.
The postures connected me to my body in a way I hadn’t experienced before. It was very hard, and at the same time I felt my body saying YES YES YES, my body really loved yoga, and my mind would later catch up. My first class was actually a defining point in my life. Right there, and then, I knew I had found something very meaningful and I grabbed it with both hands.
What inspired you to become a Bikram Teacher?
The yoga practice was my passion, my inspiration. At the time, I had returned from travelling and was living in a city with no Bikram Yoga. I decided that I would go to Bikram Teacher Training and teach myself to do yoga! I would become my most favourite teacher! And from there, the journey began…
What is your favourite posture?
Ardha-Matsyendrasana (Spine Twisting Pose). I like the way you have to set it up, and the feeling of your body moving in opposing directions. On an energetic level I feel it brings me back to balance.
What are one of the MANY highlights of being a Bikram Teacher?
I love the connections you make with your students and the people that you work with. I have been lucky enough to teach for many years in the same places, and I have met many interesting and wonderful people who have become part of my yoga family.
